Oggi va molto di moda parlare di economia circolare, molte sono le riflessioni sull’argomento e l’attenzione a quei principi di recupero e riciclo che da sempre le nostre concerie applicano, rappresentando un classico modello di circolarità.
Con un approccio industriale moderno, sistemico e d’avanguardia la conceria trasforma un sottoprodotto alimentare in un materiale di qualità ed eccellenza, valorizzando allo stesso tempo alcuni scarti quali materie prime per altre filiere industriali attraverso vere e proprie simbiosi con l’intera catena del valore.

Se venisse meno la nostra storica funzione di utilizzatori di un “residuo”, si avrebbero montagne di rifiuti. Ben chiaro nella nostra mente è il concetto chiave dell’economia circolare: progettare i prodotti in modo tale da utilizzare ciò che adesso è destinato ad essere un rifiuto come risorsa per un nuovo ciclo produttivo.

L’economia circolare ci piace raccontarla con le iniziative ed i progetti attuati e quelli in corso, a testimonianza di come la nostra industria conciaria sia riuscita negli anni a rendere concreti ed attuabili i paradigmi di una nuova visione economica che valorizza la materia durante i processi di trasformazione ed è in grado di attivare, pure nel recupero degli scarti, nuove ed interessanti opportunità di business anche in altri settori.

Questo significa anche ricercare la creatività imprenditoriale, investendo in formazione, ricerca e sviluppo, facendo sistema e cercando di fare di necessità virtù, trasformando le problematiche in opportunità di crescita a vantaggio dell’intero settore e della collettività.

Tali paradigmi negli anni li abbiamo portati avanti creando strutture consortili per il recupero ed il riutilizzo di innumerevoli scarti e o rifiuti della lavorazione conciaria, convinti che la sostenibilità sia un fattore di competitività.

La pelle finita è un’alternativa naturale e rinnovabile. La quasi totalità delle pelli lavorate in Italia (99%) è un sottoprodotto dell’industria alimentare, recuperato attraverso le operazioni tipiche del processo conciario e trasformato in materiale ad alto valore aggiunto, strategico per la manifattura (calzatura, pelletteria, arredamento, auto motive, articoli moda).

Per le nostre Aziende questo significa massima attenzione su tutta la filiera, a cominciare dall’origine per il controllo del benessere animale, ovvero un sistema di valutazione delle condizioni di allevamento, trasporto, macellazione.

The circular economy is a major talking point nowadays. Much could be said on this topic. The principles of recovery and recycling have always been major issues to which our tanneries have dedicated much attention, thus engendering a classic model of circularity.

By adopting a systematically modern, leading-edge industrial approach, tanneries turn byproducts of the food chain into a quality material of excellence, while in turn valorizing their own waste in the form of raw materials for other industrial production chains (thus creating truly symbiotic links throughout the value chain).

If our own function as “waste” users were to come to an end, huge masses of refuse would be created. We are fully aware of the key concept of circular economies – designing products so that what is of use today will also be of use tomorrow as input for new production cycles.

We insist on the circular economy and on our various ongoing (or already implemented) initiatives, which bear witness to the efforts made by the tanning sector to successfully concretize the paradigms engendered by a new economic vision: valorization of materials during the processing itself. Indeed, when we recover waste we contribute to the emergence of new, interesting business openings also in other sectors.

To do this, we must also act creatively as entrepreneurs. We must systematically invest in training and R&D. Necessity as a ‘mother of invention’. Parts of problems become parts of solutions (presenting as opportunities for growth not only for the sector but also for society as a whole).

Reflecting our firm belief in sustainability as a competitiveness driver, we have focussed on these paradigms for many years, creating structures for the consortium that can recover and re-use any number of tannery waste products.

Finished leather is a natural, renewable alternative. Practically all the leather processed in Italy (99%) is a food industry byproduct, recovered via the typical processes of tanning and turned into a high added-value material of strategic importance for manufacturers (footwear, leather goods, furnishing, automotive, fashion etc.).

Our companies must focus on the entire chain, right from the very first stages − i.e. animal wellbeing − and must analyse the various husbandry, transport and slaughterhouse practices.
